The Jonathan Academy of Science
The Jonathan Academy of Science
The Jonathan Academy of Science is to have a transformative impact on Rwandan secondary education. Designed from the ground up as a modern center for learning, it will feature outstanding educators, advanced science laboratories, and sustainable infrastructure. The Jonathan Academy of Science will be a school for life where experienced teachers and coaches work closely with students to develop self-confidence, compassion, critical thinking, and entrepreneurial drive. The goal is to shape the next generation of medical professionals, researchers, engineers, and agriculturalists who will contribute to economic development and social health in Rwanda and beyond.
The academy will welcome high-potential and underprivileged students from across Rwanda, Senior 4 to Senior 6 (advanced levels of secondary school), and provide full scholarships for tuition, room, and board. Jonathan scholars will study mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and related fields following a rigorous curriculum developed from the REB standard and designed to prepare them for entry into the leading universities. Admission will be highly selective, based on recommendations from high school principals via the Ministry of Education, an entry exam, and a personal interview focusing on academic excellence, passion for science, and leadership capacity.
The first intake of students is scheduled for September 2026; initial support is being provided by the Jonathan Foundation, a Rwandan non-profit with a mission of championing youth development in the community of Gashora and a five-year track record of outstanding results in primary and secondary education (www.jonathan-foundation.org). An independent board of directors governs the Jonathan Academy of Science, with years of experience in education and development and a strong network in Rwanda and abroad. The financial objective of the board is to build an endowment large enough to make the Jonathan Academy of Science self-sufficient by 2030.
